Sports City University Basketball Academy was started in Huntington, West Virginia in 1992 by Jim Clayton. In 1999 Joe Crawford opened the doors of SCU in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. At the same time Shane Wagner was helping Coach Clayton start their new facility in Teays Valley, West Virginia.
Coach Crawford and Coach Wagner teamed up in 2006 to take SCU to the next level in Oklahoma. In 2010 SCU in Oklahoma City was purchased by the Tulsa Shock WNBA team and has since become the Shock Basketball Academy.
It is our goal to be the premier youth basketball training academy in the region, and the country.
What they say:
Sydney began playing organized basketball for SCU (Shock) when she was about ten years of age. She had played for another coach and his program for a couple years, but we felt his approach to coaching was less than what we desired. We wanted her to have a positive experience learning the fundamentals as well as developing into a total player; skills, attitude, confidence, teamwork, dedication, respect.
After speaking with Joe Crawford and prayerful consideration, we made the decision to have Syd play in the SCU (Shock) program. Syd is blessed because of that decision and this program. After playing in the program for over 7 years she gained confidence in her ability, she has been stretched to trust her skills, and has developed into a total player, both offensively and defensively. She set a goal to play at the college level and worked hard to achieve that goal. Last year she signed with Oklahoma Christian University and just completed her freshman season. What a blessing it has been to see her grow not only as a ball player but as a young lady. The Shock basketball program has been incredibly instrumental in her growth. From the guidance and teaching of coaches who had her best interest at heart, clinics, skills training, one-on-one training, speed and agility, and treadmill, we can’t say enough good about what we’ve experienced with the Shock program.
